The Veritone IDentify application helps law enforcement and government agencies identify suspects in media evidence by using facial recognition technology against databases of known offenders or persons of interest.

Case Management Panel

The Case Management Panel organizes your cases into 3 categories - Active, Closed, or Archived and sorts them in reverse chronological order within each folder (most recently created case appearing on top).

Note: For new accounts, the Case Management Panel will not appear until your first case has been created. 

a. Click New Case to create a new case file.

b. Click a Status category to view a list of case files identified with the selected status. Active cases open by default when logging into IDentify.

  • Active: The default status for any new case or open case. 
  • Closed: Once a suspect has been positively identified, a case file status can be changed to Closed
  • Archived: Cases that are no longer actively being reviewed but that need to be kept on record can be Archived.

c. Click a case name to view and manage the case content. The case that's currently opened shows an open folder icon.

d. Hover over a file name and click the three-dot action button to access additional case actions such as changing the case status or deleting the case.

Case Details Page

The Case Details Page contains all information and evidence added to the case file. It also provides tools to upload and process new digital evidence, edit case details, add notes, share suspect information, and confirm a match. When you open Veritone IDentify, the Case Details Page of your most recently created Active case displays. 

Primary case information is displayed at the top of the Case Details Page. This information is provided when the case file is created

a. Case Name: The name of the case entered by the user upon case creation.

b. Case Avatar Image: An image uploaded to represent the case file.

c. Case ID Number: The case number entered by the user.

d. Date Created: The date and time the case was created in Veritone or a date manually entered by the user.

e. Lead Agency/Department: The name of the agency/department associated with the case.

f. Officer: The name of one or more officers associated with the case.

Case Actions

Each case has a set of actions that can be performed within the file.

a. Add Note: Create a note to add information to the case file.

b. Upload Media: Add video and still image evidence to the case file.

c. Additional Case Actions Icon: Additional actions that can be performed on the case.

  • Share All Suspects: Email case suspect information to other colleagues. (Active cases)
  • Case Info: Open the Case Information panel to view a summary of case details and activity. (Active, Closed, and Archived cases)
  • Edit Case: Make changes to primary case details. (Active cases)
  • Close Case: Move the case to Closed status. (Active and Archived cases)
  • Archive Case: Move the case to Archived status. (Active and Closed cases)
  • Delete Case: Remove the case file from your organization. Deleted cases cannot be reinstated. (Closed and Archived cases)
  • Open Case: Reopen the case and move it back to Active status. (Closed and Archived cases)

Evidence Tab

The Evidence Tab holds a collection of all media files that have been uploaded to the case. Media files display on cards in a gallery-style format, which can be ordered by Most Recent (default), By Type (Video/Image), or By Duration

Each file card in the Evidence tab shows the following details:

a. Thumbnail image: The uploaded image or first frame of video. Hover over the image on a video file to play the first 20 seconds. 

b. Checkbox: Select the file for additional actions, such as Trim & Process or Process. When multiple file boxes are checked, only the Process option displays.

c. File Length (videos only): The length of the video file. 

d. File Actions Icon: Additional actions that can be performed on the media file.

  • Process: Run face recognition processing on the file.
  • Trim and Process: Remove the beginning and/or ending part of the video clip to use only the part you want. The Trim and Process option also allows you to manually select faces to process for face recognition. 
  • Delete: Delete the media file from the case.

e. File Name: The name of the uploaded file. Click the file name to open and Process an image, or open, play, Process, or Trim & Process a video.

f. File Type Icon: An icon that indicates the file type (video or image). 

g. Date/Time: The local date and time that the file was uploaded.

h. Click the dropdown arrow and select an option to sort evidence files by Most Recent (default), By Type (Video/Image), or By Duration.

Processed Tab

The Processed Tab contains a list of video and image files in the case that have undergone face recognition processing. Processed files are listed in a gallery-style format, which can be ordered by Processed Date (default), by Type, or by the number of Results Found (High/Low)

Each file under the Processed tab displays the following information:

a. Thumbnail image: The uploaded image or first frame of video. Hover over the image on a video file to play the first 20 seconds. 

b. View Matches: Open the Processed Details page to view matched and unknown faces found with face recognition processing. The View Matches option appears when the thumbnail image is hovered over.

c. File Actions Icon: Additional actions that can be performed on the file, such as Delete.

d. File name: The name of the uploaded file. 

e. File Type Icon: An icon that indicates the file type (video or image).

f. Processed: The date and time the file was processed.

g. Results Found: The number of faces identified with face recognition processing. 

Suspects Tab

The Suspects Tab contains a list of individuals who have been marked as suspects in the case. Case suspects display on cards in a gallery-style format in order by the date added. 

Each suspect card includes the following details and actions that can be performed: 

a. Thumbnail image: The database ID image of the suspect and reference image used to identify the match. 

b. Checkbox: Check the box to enable functions to Remove the person as a suspect or Share Suspect Details by email. 

c. Suspect Actions Icon: Additional actions that can be performed.

  • Share Suspect Details: Share details about the suspect by email.
  • Remove Suspect: Unmark the person as a suspect and remove them from the case suspect list.
  • Confirm Match:

d. Suspect Card Details: The suspect’s first and last names and the date the person was added as a case suspect. Click to open and view the Suspect Record.

Notes Tab

The Notes Tab holds a collection of notes that have been added to the case. It also provides tools to edit, share, and delete the case notes. 

a. Select Note Checkbox: Check individual boxes or click the top (select all) box to Share or Delete a group of notes. 

b. Date: The date and time the note was created.

c. Note: The beginning of the note content.

d. Created By: The name of the person who created the note.

e. Share Icon: Share the note by email.

f. Edit Icon: Update or make changes to the note.

g. Delete Icon: Delete the note from the case file.
